Financial aid helped me and my family pay for college. I don’t have to take out a loan as planned. I strongly encourage students to apply for financial aid. Michael M. Film (filmmaking) major, Peyton Jergenson of Tucson, Arizona said most of his success in ASU’s MyPath 2 program helped him navigate the transfer process before graduating.
Peyton Jergenson’s journey from Glendale Community College (GCC) to Arizona State University, which ended this semester as he graduated with a degree in kinesiology, praised his family’s role and determination in changing his course.
Along with many other Maricopa Community College transfer students who graduated from ASU this summer, she attributed most of her success to the MyPath2ASU program, which helped her navigate the transfer process before graduation.

In 2020, Jergenson chose to study kinesiology because of his grandmother’s battle with brain cancer and stroke. While caring for her grandmother, she realized a career goal related to kinesiology with a focus on physical well-being.
Choosing GCC because of its proximity to home and the President’s Scholarship, Jergenson quickly became a Phi Theta Kappa member for honors programs, fellowships, and fellowship opportunities.
Thanks to being part of Maricopa County College District’s MyPath2ASU program, moving to ASU is a natural progression. The Unlimited Routes program provides Maricopa Community College students with a smooth and hassle-free transfer.
“It made sure I went into the program I wanted to take, and it worked, so I knew what I needed to take and when I needed to take it,” Jergenson said.

James Schaffnitt, the first person in his family to graduate from college, will graduate from ASU this summer after transferring from Scottsdale Community College (SCC).
Schaffnitt, who worked in the solar industry after high school, returned to after-life education, first completing a master’s degree at SCC before transferring to ASU for a master’s degree in electrical engineering.

Reflecting on his path, Schaffnitt said, “College after graduating from high school was not for me. I am a good student. But as I entered my 20s, I realized that I wanted more in the future.”
Community colleges are recommended because of their easy and convenient access, especially for those re-entering school after a break. “It’s a great way to get to know educational issues,” he said.
Donna Prado’s journey from Glendale Community College (GCC) to ASU reflects the importance of family support and commitment to higher education.
Driven by his parents’ desire to be healthy and committed to providing him with educational opportunities he never had, Prado was driven to pursue higher education. Guided by the success of his sister’s transfer journey from GCC to ASU, Prado gained financial support by posting information on ASU’s website, which ultimately strengthened his decision to attend a community college.

During his time at GCC, Prado actively participated in honors programs to enhance his college experience and continue his studies. With an interest in criminal justice and an active role in society, Prado chose his major with purpose and dedication.
Wanting to stay true to his origins in Arizona and stay close to home, Prado decided the Sun Devil community was the right place for him. MyPath2ASU provided him with invaluable guidance, facilitating the transfer process and ensuring ASU’s success.
Going forward, Prado plans to put his master’s degree in criminology and criminal justice to good use as he begins his career in a non-profit organization, with a desire to serve the city of Phoenix by providing information.
