Our goal is to provide the support and services needed for children with autism, allowing them to reach their full potential.

At the heart of our mission is a commitment to providing our students with the tools they need to succeed in college, professional, and community settings. This is accomplished by implementing evidence-based interventions tailored to meet the diverse learning needs of individuals with autism spectrum disorders. Public and private school students in kindergarten through fifth grade may be accepted based on the following criteria:

Kindergarten through Grade 3: Any student identified as having a significant reading disability if, pursuant to subsection 12 of rule 6A-6.053, he or she meets any of the following criteria:

Students scored at the lowest achievement/test level as determined by the publisher during the universal selection period on the assessments listed in the district-approved K-12 evidence-based comprehensive reading plan;

The student reaches the lowest achievement level/benchmark determined by the publisher during the administration of progress monitoring at any time during the school year based on assessments contained in a comprehensive, evidence-based reading plan approved by the K-12 district; or

The student has demonstrated, through consistent formative assessment or teacher observation data, a minimum level of reading skills in one or more of the areas of phonological awareness; phonetics; vocabulary, including oral language skills; reading fluency; and reading comprehension.

Grades 4-5: Any student who scored at Level 1 or Level 2 in the previous school year on the Florida English Language Arts test or who meets one of the three criteria listed above for a significant reading disability.

A. Yes. If you are on active duty and are ordered to permanently relocate to Florida, you may be eligible for the Family Empowerment for Educational Choice Grant (FES-EO), Family Empowerment for Students with Unique Skills Grant (FES-UA), Personalized Education Program (PEP), or Florida Tax Scholarship (FTC) before moving. You may apply using your home address or your new Florida home address (if applicable) and upload documentation of your permanent change of station with your application.

A. No. The law changes prevent you from applying to more than one private school or parent-funded scholarship for your student at a time. You can apply for a new scholarship if you are rejected or denied. However, you can apply for the Transportation Scholarship Account and the New World Account if your student is eligible.

Q: My student was in a private school, but now we are in a public school. What happens to my scholarship? Am I eligible for anything else?

A. If you have an FTC, FES-EO, FES-UA, PEP, or Hope scholarship and are enrolled in a public school, your scholarship will end and any remaining funds will be returned to the state. As a public school student, you may be eligible for a New World Scholarship Account or Transportation Scholarship.

A. You must relinquish the scholarship you have received and apply for the scholarship you wish to receive as a new student. You may opt out of the scholarship using this form here.

Q. My student is on the New World Scholarship and attending public school full time. Can I also apply for the new K-8 transportation grant?

A. Yes, if your student attends an unenrolled public school, you may be eligible for a K-8 transportation subsidy for your family.

Question. My student attends a private preschool or private kindergarten. Can I still get a New World scholarship account?

A. If your student attends a private child care or preschool through Florida’s Voluntary Preschool Program (VPK), then you may apply for the New World scholarship if you meet the other requirements. You cannot receive the New World scholarship if you are using another scholarship to fund your early childhood education.

Q. How can I demonstrate that my student has a significant deficit in math or reading skills so that we can qualify for the New World scholarship?

A. Your student’s eligibility will be determined based on their most recent report card or most recent English Language Arts (ELA) scores, or if your student is identified as having characteristics of dyslexia or dyscalculia.

A. The scholarship is $1,200 per student for the 2024-25 academic year. The scholarship for the 2023-24 academic year, which will be awarded through September, will remain at $500.

Reading and math skills provide the foundation for academic success from an early age. Students who struggle early in their academic careers may continue to struggle to reach their full academic potential. The New World Scholarship Account allows early intervention to help students thrive.

This program benefits VPK and K-5 public school students by providing families with an Education Savings Account (ESA). Families can use the ESA to pay for programs and materials designed to improve reading and math skills. The amount of the scholarship varies depending on the academic year in which the student is enrolled.

While funds are available, the New World Scholarship Account is available to students enrolled in Florida public schools in grades K-5 who:

Eligible students who are classified as English Language Learners and are enrolled in programs or receiving services specifically designed to meet the learning needs of English Language Learners will be given priority.

Please note: Beginning in the 24-25 school year, families will no longer be required to apply for reimbursement for educational expenses under Florida Statutes.

New Worlds Reading is a FREE home reading program in Florida that sends free books and activities to eligible children through fifth grade every month throughout the school year through fifth grade. Families can choose which books they receive when they apply, building their home library based on their child’s interests to foster a lifelong love of reading. Accompanying literacy resources and activities help children strengthen reading skills and build confidence.

Reading New Worlds is operated by the UF Lastinger Learning Center. Book titles are selected through a partnership with Scholastic and approved by the Florida Department of Education. Books and materials are available in English, Spanish, Haitian Creole, and Braille.

To be eligible, students must be in the VPK program and not making age-appropriate progress on state assessments or in K-5 in a public or private school and not reading at grade level.

To avoid upfront costs, New Worlds scholarship families can choose the Step Up For Students program.
