Community Outreach And Volunteering

There are many social and professional clubs and leagues available along the career path that interests me most, which is commercial piloting. There are many paths I can take in this career, so many organizations and institutions that offer it. Some are more social in nature that include women in aviation or have a strict career path such as commercial aviation, air force, etc. I am personally interested in joining the Hawaii Air National Guard (HANG). I am interested in this because it allows me to incorporate my business degree from GCU as well as my pilot rating from AFTC (Arizona FlightTraining Center). In addition, I have the honor of serving my country through the organization.

Set and share goals for how you will participate in a social/professional organization. Discuss how participation in this group can positively impact you as a student/employee? (Minimum 100 words total)

Personally, my schedule is already very busy between attending regular classes at GCU and studying at non-flight school and other classes that I take three times a week. So it would be very difficult for me to attend and participate in other outside organizations. However, I will do my best to broaden my horizons and join social clubs to create a positive atmosphere at my university and build new relationships that will help me continue throughout the year, both academically and socially. This will help make my overall experience at GCU more enjoyable by taking a lot of the pressure off my shoulders.

For me, mastering time management is something I need to do in order to succeed in my studies and prepare myself for a successful future. Yes, attending and graduating from GCU is a big part of my ultimate goal, but my initial and overall career goal is to become a successful commercial airline pilot and possibly a fighter pilot for the National Guard. So in order to succeed in that, by practicing and perfecting my time management skills through active study and work both in and out of school over the next four years, I will be able to face the future with confidence. In order to do this, I need to meet the requirements for the CCSC scholarship that will allow me to attend this school, as well as access to the Arizona Flight Training Center during my flight training and ground school.

I always knew I wanted to attend a private Christian school but didn’t think it was possible because of the high cost. My full scholarship has been a huge blessing to me and my family. The more I learned about it and the price, I felt like it was too good to be true. Belle Rakestraw, BA, Class of 2024
