UNC Online MBA Scholarship – If you’re an international student, welcome to Carolina! You’ll bring a unique perspective and experience to the UNC community. Whether in class, at social events, or in the community, you’ll help your peers understand cultural differences as you adjust to your new life in Chapel Hill. We place such an emphasis on building a diverse class that nearly a quarter of students in our full-time, STEM-designated MBA program come to UNC from outside the United States.

In most cases, non-U.S. citizen applicants are subject to the same admission requirements and process as U.S. citizens and permanent residents. Our admissions team can provide additional guidance to international applicants regarding academic transcripts, test scores, and language tests.

Scholarships can help finance your education. All scholarships at UNC are merit-based; financial need is not required to receive a scholarship. We offer scholarships to approximately 50% of our students as well as international students and U.S. citizens. We also offer student loan options for non-U.S. citizen students, including options that do not require a U.S. co-signer.

The F-1 Optional Practical Training (OPT) visa gives students the opportunity to work in the United States for up to 12 months after graduation. For international students, the STEM designation in the UNC MBA program offers an additional benefit. International students who graduate from our MBA program are eligible for a two-year (24-month) extension to the initial year of Optional Practical Training (OPT), allowing them to work in the United States before applying for a visa.

If you are not a US citizen, you will need to obtain a student visa. This process can begin once you are accepted into a full-time MBA program.

The Office of International Student and Scholar Services can assist you with the student visa application process. The office issues Forms I-20 and DS-2019 (Certificate of Eligibility for F-1 and J-1 Nonimmigrant Student Status) to all eligible non-U.S. citizen students. Please note that federal regulations require you to complete an MBA financial certification to demonstrate that you have sufficient funds to finance your studies. The third factor to keep in mind when considering UNC Kenan-Flagler is that they have been generous in offering merit-based scholarships in recent years. Approximately 30% of students receive merit-based scholarships to pay for some or all of their tuition. Some of these scholarships are also open to international students.

The UNC Kenan-Flagler MBA program offers four modules in the fall and spring of the first and second years. Each module includes seven weeks of instruction. Through core courses, students gain a strong foundation in a variety of business areas, including data analysis and decision making, global economics, ethics, corporate and personal responsibility, and business strategy. Beginning with Module Three in the first year of the MBA, students can choose from a variety of electives. Each year, Kenan-Flagler changes its electives by 10 percent to maintain a focus on current business topics.
